Essential matcha latte recipe

I know Matcha has been ‘popular’ for a while now but it’s only recently I’ve really developed a taste for it…..I mean, I should say ‘obsession’….

Usually ‘obsessions’ can culminate into something quite unhealthy, however this is never going to happen with Matcha…hoorah! Matcha tea powder is ordinarily produced in Japan and is extremely versatile in terms of drinking and cooking (hence the creative brain explosion!)…you can add it into smoothies, protein balls, chia puddings, biscuits, iced tea….the list goes on (stay tuned for recipes!).

It is so beneficial because it is produced by grinding the whole green tea leaf into a powder and it is in the leaf where you find the important antioxidants, minerals, amino acids and chlorophyll. Matcha does contain caffeine but on a much lower scale than coffee and will therefore only give you a subtle, more natural caffeine fix.

I literally have been thinking matcha this, matcha that, how can I possibly use matcha in as many ways possible! But, before I get ahead of myself I thought I would start with a very simple recipe (not really a recipe) my yummy matcha latte! You don’t need a steamer or frother to make this…..you either need a blender or a whisk 🙂

You will need:

1 tsp matcha powder, I use yourtea

1/2 cup of hot water

1/2 cup of warmed nut milk (I tend to use home-made almond or macadamia)

1 tsp – 1tbsp honey/maple syrup/stevia (depending on how sweet you like it)

sprinkling of cinnamon

**optional cinnamon sticks

Method:

  • Place the matcha powder and a small amount of water into a bowl. Using a bamboo whisk or back of a spoon make the powder into a paste.
  • Add the rest of the hot water and stir.
  • Place into a blender with the hot nut milk, honey and cinnamon
  • Blend until nice and frothy, serve.

** You can create the same effect with a bamboo whisk if you don’t have a blender.
