This is a different take on my acai smoothie bowl and one of my favourite smoothie bowls to make!
The Acai berry is grown in the Amazonian rainforests in South America and grows on a palm tree as opposed to a bush. Acai is considered a superfood because of its high nutritional values in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. If you haven’t tried Acai before it has an intense ‘berry’ taste (its hard to explain; I would say a mix between blackberry/raspberry mixed with dark chocolate) with a rich, grainy texture. It can usually be bought in frozen or powdered form and seeing as this smoothie bowl is almost like ‘healthy’ ice-cream I like to buy the frozen blocks of Acai from amazonia.
The bitter tasting berry compliments sweeter fruits, hence the addition of mango and banana! Have fun making this smoothie bowl and feel free to go wild with all of your healthy toppings! What I have used is just an example!
You will need:
1 frozen block of Acai
1/2 a frozen banana
1/2 a frozen mango
150ml of coconut water
2-4 big blocks of ice
protein powder **optional
For the topping:
sliced kiwi fruit
1/2 a passionfruit
- Combine all of the ingredients (minus the topping) into a high speed blender, I use my beloved vitamix. Blend until smooth.
- Check the consistency, add more coconut water if too thick or more ice/frozen banana if too thin.
- Garnish with the topping ingredients.
- Enjoy x x
Feel free to go crazy with the toppings! What I have used is only a guide and a small example of what you could use!
