Yoga...beginners perspective

MY REASONS FOR STARTING YOGA x x

Yoga is not something I have fully embraced up until recently. I have a tendency to stray towards more energetic, heart racing activities (like running, boxing, barre etc) but I know that the real benefit yoga has for me is on a mental level, which I don’t necessarily get from my other exercises.

Learning to switch off and concentrate on my breath is something I find almost impossible………I remember the first time I did Yin yoga last year at the lovely Flow Athletic, I’m not kidding I almost left the class….I found it so hard to give myself an hour and not think about all of the other ‘non-important’ things whizzing around my brain. However, after some time things changed and I really revelled in this time to switch off (although I would have to say I am still a novice!) and see this practice as a form of therapy :)

Recently I went up to Noosa and while I was there the Noosa festival of surfing was on. Every morning on the beach @noosabeachyoga and @omonyogini led beautiful yoga classes to awaken your mind, body and soul and make you feel fully prepared for the day ahead. Listening to the waves crash and feel the sunshine on your face was so amazing and has re-ignited my yoga flame (thankyou girls!)

They kindly did a few shots with me for the beginners amongst us to show that you don’t have to be doing handstands or backbends straight away so there is no need to be intimidated. Take it easy and grow with the practice…it’s not a competition and will actually offer you so much more than you expect!

If you’re thinking of taking up yoga but holding back I’d highly recommend it, you will feel the benefit inside and out and more often than not will be invited into a humble yoga community who want you to learn and develop as a fellow yogi.
