As you all know I am NOT a yoga expert but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy yoga every now and again and I have enormous respect for yoga as a form of fitness, meditation, stress-relief and general wellbeing.

I recently attended an event where I met the gorgeous Malvina Kang, the owner of the Hom Group and who now has studios in Sydney and Singapore. She invited me along to her studio in Darlinghurst to try out one of her classes, so of course I happily obliged.

Hom yoga is quite an institution in Sydney, offering all forms of practice including ‘Hot Flow’, Vinyasa, Yin Yang and Yin yoga with highly regarded teachers. Working up a good sweat is something I embrace so having a yoga studio that offers classes in 38 degree heat makes me somewhat excited!

Hom, Darlinghurst is located just minutes from Oxford Street and Crown Street and is set in a warehouse style studio, From the moment I entered the studio I felt an enormous amount of calm with white minimalistic design, friendly reception staff, candles burning, beautiful changing rooms and gorgeous natural light streaming through the windows (exactly what you expect from a yoga studio and more).

I had decided to do the Flow Express class, which according to the website is: a 45 minute class designed to keep you moving and limber whilst shifting any energy meridians in the body. Composed with creative sequencing with a focus on postural alignment, this dynamic class will leave you feeling energised.

Holly led the class and I was really impressed with her teaching style. She offered poses to suit all-levels from beginner to advanced and she gave us the opportunity to do the sequences independently which I really loved as it enabled me to focus on my own movements and complete the flow in my own time whilst she offered adjustments. I felt like I had a really good workout by the end of it and looking around the room I could see the glowing faces of the other students and only assume they felt the same. Energising it most certainly was!

It’s an exciting time for the Hom group as they are just about to open another studio in Sydney, located in one of my favourite trendy spots, Surry Hills. True to form they are moving to a re-designed heritage building with a luxe contemporary feel and I can not wait for the opening!

If you are looking to try out a yoga studio in Sydney I would definitely recommend Hom, they offer a wide range of classes, have excellent teachers, a beautiful space and a good variety of membership and drop-in options.
