Escape to Hamilton

I’ve lived in Australia for 7 years on and off and I have seen quite a lot of this beautiful country. It’s safe to say that when I moved back here one of the biggest attractions for me was the natural, raw beauty of this place.

I recently jetted off to Hamilton Island for 4 nights and after seeing many pictures on instagram and hearing from friends how beautiful it is I was fairly excited. However, not as excited as I feel I should have been! It all began to sink in on the aeroplane when we were jetting over the islands of the Whitsundays. As we started our descent I could see the crystal clear blue waters and the astounding white beaches from the other islands. I don’t know what I was expecting but Hamilton Island looked so tiny (to my delight!) and something that I’ve only ever seen on a postcard.

We hopped off the aeroplane and were greeted by one of the friendly hotel staff who informed us they would bring our bags to us later on to give us more time to explore the island (bonus!)

We were straight onto our buggy and exploring this tiny island within half an hour of landing (I have never had such an easy and pleasant transfer in my life!).

We stayed 2 nights at the Reef View Hotel and 2 nights at Qualia . This was our view from the top floor at the Reef View from our balcony - amazing!

I know I'm such a tourist but Koala cuddling was something I wanted to do straight away! I've searched for places to do this since I've been in Australia but only some States allow it! Willy the Koala was so cute and his claws look a bit lethal but didn't hurt at all!

Whitehaven beach snorkelling is amazing and a must when you are visiting the island!

If you are planning a trip to Hamilton Island I would be surprised if you are disappointed! This is like nowhere I have ever been in Australia and with a flight time of only 2 hours from Sydney I'm sure I'll be returning (hopefully soon!).
