Be your own motivation

'Fitness model' was honestly something I never thought I'd add to my repertoire....I have had many unhealthy phases through my teenage years and twenties that I don't necessarily regret but are not phases I'd like to re-live again, so being given the opportunity to 'model' for UFC Gym, Hard Candy and Crunch Fitness was somewhat surreal.

When I started  to get a bit more serious about my own health and fitness journey a couple of years ago, it was photos of myself that I would take to evaluate my progress (and I still do this...I'm sure you have seen on Instagram!). I am not saying that you have to be posting photos of your newly found six-pack (if you don't want to) but it is something you can keep for yourself to track your progress and is a great way to stay inspired.

Of course I look for inspiration from magazines such as Womens Health and I follow people who inspire me on social media and I think this is healthy, especially when you are new to fitness and you need that extra push to get your sneakers back on! However, when you start to notice changes in yourself, you will also turn to your own photos to see your progress.

You can do the same with your food if it helps you stay focused. I know many people find it annoying with all the food snappers in cafe's and restaurants these days (like me!) but it can actually really help you keep a good library of the things you are consuming. I started my food library about 4 years ago so that I could turn to it when I was lacking inspiration and didn't know what to cook. I had no idea that this food library would help with my health journey, it was just something I started on a whim! 4 years down the track  I am utterly shocked at some of the things I used to serve up and I feel like I have learnt so much and embraced healthy eating as a way of life not just a 'phase' to help me lose weight, for example.

If you want to be truly motivated you have to be willing to make a change and start being focused with your vision and positive approach to life. I am not saying I am at the apex of health and fitness (far from it!) but to get to where I am now has taken a couple of years and some dedication to the health and wellness sphere. As I said I am still learning and I continue to grow but the things I have learnt along the way are things I would definitely not change and have made me feel more alive than I have ever felt.I am still searching for my career and trying to carve a life out of doing the things I love, as confucius once said:

choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life...

So currently, right now my real motivation is myself. The only person who will stand in the way of me and my dreams will be me so if you are struggling to stay inspired and get the most out of your life try turning to yourself to get that motivation back.

Enjoy x x
