My top 5 tips to fit exercise into your busy schedule

I don't know about you but as I am getting older, the busier I seem to be getting. I don't hate this, I LOVE being busy but sometimes it means other areas of my life get forgotten about. Even for someone who loves exercise like me...missing one class leads to missing my morning run and before long I haven't exercised for a week. So, I just thought I'd share with you some of my tips for staying on track and finding ways to fit exercise into our endlessly busy lives :)

  • Firstly, start small. If you've let your exercise regime slide don't punish yourself by signing up to every class under the sun. Just keep things really simple and easy. This could mean walking to work, going for a walk on your lunch break, doing a quick 15 minute workout in the morning before leaving the house, cycling instead of using the car.

  • Start planning. I know I am the type of person who really needs to plan to get anything done. So scheduling my morning run or gym sesh is really important. Being organised also means I probably go to bed earlier and get a better rest anyway (no more late night, online shopping!)

  • Get your loved ones or work colleagues on board. If I'm surrounded by other busy people struggling to prioritise the gym in their lunch break the likelihood is I won't be prioritising it either. Ask around and see if anyone else wants to join you for your lunch time sweat sesh or ask if any of your loved ones want to meet you after work for a nice, brisk walk home. You'll be surprised, exercise is contagious and before long you'll have the whole office involved!

  • Set up a space at home. I've got dumbbells, a yoga mat, a medicine ball and a skipping rope all ready to go at home so that I can squeeze in a quick half an hour if I can't make it to the gym or outside for a training sesh. I use this space frequently and i've made it really quick and easy to set up so it doesn't seem like a chore.

  • Evaluate your diet. I don't know about you but if i'm too busy to work-out it probably means I'm too busy to be conscious about my food. I feel like the two work hand in hand. If I'm eating healthy I'm more likely to want to exercise. I know you're busy but just spend an hour or two on a Sunday thinking about your food for the following week and what you need to buy to stock up. If you are really pushed for time, order Chefs Palate who are currently servicing Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle (and soon to be Melbourne and Brisbane) and offer healthy, semi prepared meal kit delivery options at a really affordable price.

My number one tip for staying on track is organisation! Get a weekly/daily planner and write out realistic food and fitness commitments and remember not to get too overwhelmed so keep it simple and easy until you get used to it x x x x
