Spirulina protein balls

RECIPE FOR SPIRULINA PROTEIN BLISS BALLS xx

I have been making protein balls since the beginning and I know there are heaps of recipes around for these delightful snacks, I just wanted to share with you one of my favourite combo's :)

Protein/bliss balls are awesome because they will keep for a week in the fridge or up to 3 months in the freezer (i keep mine in the freezer usually), they are handy to take with you when you are busy and they make cute presents (if you think your friends will appreciate them....I know mine do!!). There are so many supermarket versions around now but I really like to make my own so I know exactly what is in them and I can change the flavours and experiment as I see fit.

The lovelies at Swisse Wellness sent me some Spirulina superfood powder (which I have actually been meaning to buy forever) so I thought I would make a variation of my classic protein balls which I posted 64 weeks ago on Instagram :) (I've made a few since then but this was always my favourite recipe!!)

You will need:

1 cup of macadamias

15 Almonds

4 Brazil nuts

1/2 cup of medjool dates, pitted

1/2 cup of raisins

1/2 cup of coconut flakes

1/2 cup of sunflower seeds

2 tbsp raw cacao nibs

1 tbsp spirulina**optional

1 scoop Protein powder**optional

Topping:

desiccated coconut

chia seeds

cinnamon

ground cacao

Method:

  • Combine all of the ingredients into a blender such as the Vitamix (except for the toppings). Blend on a low setting and use a tamper to combine as the mixture becomes moist. I like to leave mine with a few larger pieces of the nuts and seeds!

  • Put the mixture into a mixing bowl. Use tablespoon measures for each ball and roll between your hands (this mixture is quite oily but that is normal and great moisturiser for you hands!!)

  • Pop the balls onto a baking tray and place into the freezer for at least 1/2 an hour.

  • These can be left in the fridge for up to a week or in the freezer for up to 3 months....just pull them out as you need them or the night before!

  • Enjoy xx
