Turmeric & passionfruit smoothie

TURMERIC SMOOTHIE XX.

If you haven't got a herb garden or fresh herbs and spices to hand, don't fret! I love using dried spices in my food and they can have amazing health benefits that you may not be aware of. I  have quite a large collection but what you can find next to my kettle is: turmeric, cayenne pepper, ginger, cumin and nutmeg....this is more as a reminder to myself that I should be adding in a sprinkle here or a sprinkle there to boost my food with even more health benefits.

Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant as well as helping with indigestion and weightloss. Turmeric has an earthy spicy flavour and can compliment sweet dishes surprisingly well! I really wanted to incorporate this wonder spice into my morning routine so this is what I came up with! I initially started with 1 x tsp of turmeric but when I made it again I cut it down to 1/2 and I preferred the flavour. Maybe start on the smaller side and add more in if you are loving those earthy, spicy notes!

Be warned, it will stain your blender! But it can easily be cleaned with bi-carb and apple cider vinegar so don't worry!

You will need:

2 x Passionfruit

1/2 an orange, peeled

1 x tbsp chia seeds

5 cent piece of ginger

125ml coconut water

1/2 banana

2 x medjool dates

2 blocks of ice

Method:

  • Blend all of the ingredients (except x 1 of the passionfruits, if you like it pulpy) in a blender until smooth

  • Pour into a glass

  • Add in the remaining passionfruit

  • Enjoy x x
